The Stockholm Marathon Group

Athletics clubs Hässelby SK and Spårvägens FK organised Stockholm Marathon for the first time in 1979. The operation has grown considerably since then. Now over 260,000 runners participate every year in the clubs’ competitions.

In addition to ASICS Stockholm Marathon, women’s races Tjejmilen and Vårruset, team relay Bellmanstafetten, Stockholm Half Marathon and the tough Tjurruset are the high profile events, which attract the largest numbers.

The principal aim is to organise high quality races for all types of runners – elite, club and fun runners - and in doing so, improve the general population’s health and fitness.

One hundred per cent of the profits generated from the races go back into sport, partly to the organising clubs and partly to other clubs and organisations, which provide officials for the events. Athletes, leaders and parents also often act as officials without payment.

Hässelby SK and Spårvägen FK have programmes for youth, juniors, seniors and veterans. On the junior and senior levels both clubs are represented by many of the top Swedish athletes.
